Canadian owned since 1947 and headquartered in Guelph, Ontario. Most Danby appliances are built by manufacturing partners overseas, and we are still verifying which models are made in Canada.

Canadian family owned out of Barrie, Ontario, with the premium grills genuinely built in Ontario. The entry-level models come from the company's own plants in China, and a new Mexican plant opened in 2025.

Ultimately controlled somewhere other than Canada or the United States. One of them is an American household name that has belonged to a Chinese group since 2016, which is exactly the sort of thing a brand name will not tell you.

GE Appliances

An American icon under Chinese ownership: GE Appliances has belonged to China's Haier since 2016, still runs out of Louisville, Kentucky, and builds much of what it sells in U.S. plants. In Canada it reaches you through Mabe Canada, a Mexican-owned distributor.

German-owned, and unusually so: Bosch appliances come from BSH in Munich, owned outright by Robert Bosch GmbH, a company roughly 94 percent held by a charitable foundation that deliberately holds almost none of the votes.

South Korean owned, with a real American factory: LG Electronics answers to LG Corp in Seoul and builds washers in Clarksville, Tennessee. Nothing we found is made in Canada.
